South Texas Project Units 1&2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Fifth Interim Report Concerning Material Control of Structural Steel Bolts

.- On June 17, 1980, pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e), Houston Lighting & Power Company notified your office of an item concerning material control of ASTM-A325 structural steel bolts. . As a result of the investigations concerning material control of ASTM-A325 structural steel bolts, the similarly related ASTM-A490 structural steel bolts were also included in this investigation since many of these bolts were purchased on the same purchase orders as ASTM-A325 bolts. Although the possibility of placement of Non-Category I ASTM A-490 structural steel bolts in safety related structures have not been specif.1-cally addressed in previous reports, the s=e corrective actions have been pursued for both ASTM-A325 and ASTM-A490 structural steel bolts.

Since the last interim report, most of the required documentation necessary to qualify the bolts for Category I applications has been received. Once all required documentation has been received, an evaluation will be perfomed to determine whether or not all structural steel bolts can be certified for use. The final report on this item will be submitted to your office by April 10, 1981.
