Dear Mr. Denton:

Enclosed with this letter are fifteen copies of the document " Duke Power Company, An Analysis of Hydrogen Control Measures at McGuire Nuclear Station, Volume 3."

This document provides the results of a hydrogen igniter testing program and an evaluation of these test results.

Duke Power Company believes that the actions taken subsequent to the accident at TMI Unit. 2 preclude inadvertent interference with the ECCS in the event of an accident requiring its initiation. Therefore, hydroger, wilt not be generated in amounts in excess of the litaits set forth in ItXn 150.44 and no additional safety systems are required.

This te n grogram demonstrates that even in the extremely unlikely event of an accident resulting in the generation of hydrogen in excess of the limits of 1GCFR 550.44 the Hydrogen Mitigation System installed at McGuire Nuclear Station Unit I can effectively mitigate the consequences of such an accident.
