Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

l South Texas Project l Units 1&2 l

Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Interim Report Concerning 1 Inch HILTI Kwik-Bolt Expansion Anchors On December 12, 1980, pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e), Houston Lighting &

Power Company notified your office of a potentially reportable item concern-ing a 10CFR Part 21 notification by HILTI Inc., on the tensile strengths of l

their 1 inch expansion anchors. The HILTI notification to Houston Lighting

& Power Company, dated November 25, 1980, required a reduction in the load capacity values of the 1 inch anchors.

It has been determined that the subject anchor bolts have been purchased l

for use at the South Texas Project. Because of this, the following actions '

have been taken:

l. The revised HILTI load capacity values have been incorporated into the Technical Reference Document (TRD), " Design, Instal-lation, Testing and Inspection of Concrete Expansion Anchor Bol ts . "

l

2. Designs utilizing the subject bolts are being reviewed for acceptability in light of the revised load capacity values as reflected in the revised TRD.
3. Pending this review, a " hold" has been placed on all instal-lation of the subject bolts.

l The next report concerning this matter will be submitted by March 20..

1981.
