Atlanta, GA 30303 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1&2 LICENSE NOS. DP yR-7NDJPR-62 DOCKET NOS.4tT-325 AND SOM RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 80-24
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
In response to your letter of November 21, 1980, transmitting IE Bulletin 80-24, Carolina Power & Light Company submits the following response for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant.
The Brunswick Plant does not use any open cooling water systems inside the containment. A closed cooling water system is used to provide cooling for various reactor building components, including the containment loads, 1) recirculation pump coolers, 2) drywell equipment drain heat exchanger, 3) drywell ventilation coolers.
The only leakage we have experienced with this closed cooling water was an approximately 2 gpm leak from the Reactor Recirculation Pump 2B cooling water lines.
This leak was found following start-up after a normal refueling outage due to high leakage (ar flow) from the drywell floor drain sump. The cause of this leakage was mechanical damage incurred during maintenance activities during the refueling outage.
This incident occurred in December of 1977 and no other leakage has been identified with this system on either unit since receipt of the operating license.
