Dccket No. 50-285 Mr. W. C. J ones Division Manager, Production Oraha Public Power District 1623 Harney Street Omaha, Nebraska 68102

Dear Mr. Jones:

It was recently brought to our attention that two license amendment applications for the Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1, which are germane to the fire protection issues included in Amendment No. 53 issued on November 17, 1980, have not been addressed. These applications, dated January 15, 1979 and June 29, 1979, request changes to the implementation schedules for fire protection modifications stipulated in the staff's SER dated August 23, 1978. Since the requested extension of time for cogletion of the modifications had expired and since the modifications had been cogleted, we had assumed that these applications were moot at the time of issuing Amendment 53, however, this supposition was not stated in our SER.

Therefore, unless we hear from you to the contary within 30 days of your receipt of this letter, the staff will consider the applications identified above to be withdrawn.

If you have any questions on this subject, please contact your NRC Project Manager.

Sincerely, Robert A. Clark, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #3 Division of Licensing cc: b next page D
