I 5UBJECT: OPERATIONAL STEAM GENERATOR CHEMISTRY REVIEW FOR THE NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNIT N0. 1 (NA-1)
We have completed our review of your submittals dated June 18 and June 30, 1980 regarding NA-1 steam generator corrective actions. Your above submittals were in response to our request for information dated April 8, 1980 regarding steam generator chemistry, corrosion and corrective action.
The corrective action involved aninonia/ boric acid secondary side water treatment to halt further tube degradation by denting. The tube denting was considered to be the result of acidic contamination caused by the decomposition of condensate polisher ion exchange resin which was discharged into the NA-1 steam generators in 1979.
We conclude that there is no imediate safety concern and that this water treatment should halt further steam generator tube denting associated with ion exchange resin intrusion. Also, we. conclude that periodic inservice inspections which are required by the NA-1 Technical Specifications will provide for the monitoring of further tube denting.
We wish to be kept appraised of the effectiveness of the amonia/ boric acid treatment, eddy current and visual inspection results for the forthcoming steam generator inservice inspection to take place during the second refueling outage at NA-1.
Therefore, we request that these inspection results be submitted for our information 30 days after completion of the NA-1 steam generator inspection.
