Dear Mr. Seidle:

This letter is written as a supplement to my previous correspondence to you dated June 27, 1980. In that correspondence you were advised of a icose bushing condition in sway struts furnished by ITT Grinnell and' Bergen Patterson similar to cne previously reported for Corner & Lada struts. As of this date we have found 3 Bergen Patterson and 9 ITT Grinnell sway struts which are affected. Although these struts do exhibit a loose bushing condition, none have been found with the paddle completely disengaged from the bushing, which was the case for some of the Corner & Lada struts.

Bergen Patterson and ITT Grinnell have been advised of the problem and have been requested to come to the site and examine their struts. After their examination taxes place, Bechtel will review the resulting data and make a determination of the safety significance.

In order to control the affected sway struts until a repair and/or replacement agreement is reached with the Vendors, the following actions will be taken at the Wolf Creek Site. Uninstalled sway struts found with loose bushings will be segregated in a hold area or tagged. In addition, installed struts will be inspected at the time of pipe attachment.

After examination by the vendors has taken place and a review for safety significance has been completed by Bechtel, a final report will be transmitted to your office. If this final report is not available by November 15, we will l
