Dear Mr. Ippolito:
In response to your letter of October 1, 1980, Carolina Power & Light Company conducted a review of the scram systems at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Unit Nos.1 and 2 and have confirmed that both are in conformance with the General Design Criteria (Appendix A 10CFR50). Carolina Power & Light Company does intend to participate in the BWR Owners Group Sub-Group to address the BWR scram system. Any design and performance criteria developed by this sub-group to assure adequate long term system reliability will be reviewed for its applicability to the Brunswick units.
Following this review, a schedule for implementation of any required modifications will be provided by December 15, 1980 unless delays are experienced in criteria development. You will be notified of any such delays.
