Boiling Water Reactors Post Office Box 767 Oticago, Illinois 60690 Gentimen; by letter dated Ibvember 20, 1972, we requested that you subrit infomation regarding the effects of fuel densification on the operation of Dresden 1.
By letters dated January 5 and May 1, 1973, and supp1ments dated February 27, Fhy 1, Fhy 7, June 26, August 21 and November 26, 1973, you submitted the regaested in-formation for our review.
In addition, the staff evaluated topical submittals by the fuel supplier for cycles VI through IX, Gulf United Nuclear Fuels Corporation (GUNFC).
In our letter to you dated September 13, 1973, authorizing Change No. 26, we stated that based on our preliminary review we concluded that fuel densification will not affect the Technical Specifications or operating limits of Dresden 1 for operation with core IX fuel.
We also stated we expected to issue a safety evaluation report regarding densification prior to startup of Core IX. Enclosed is our safety evaluation of densification considerations which confirms our previous conclusions. Also enclosed is the staff report ' Technical Report on Densification of Gulf United Nuclear Fuels Corporation Fuels for Light Water Reactors" dated Nover.ber 21, 1973, which is the staff evaluation of the GLNFC topical reports.
