Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

We wish to amplify the information contained in the referenced Licensee Event Reports. Subsequent to their submittal, further action has defined the cause of the occurrences and corrective action to preclude recurrence has been completed.

Identifica* ion of Occurrences: Unplanned releases of radioactive waste gas, re-ported in accordance with Environmental Technical Specification 5.6.2. A.

Designation of Apparent Cause: After intensive investigation, it has been de-termined that these waste gas releases were caused by an accumulation of numerous small piping leaks in the waste gas system.

Corrective Action: A concerted effort by Plant and Production Engineering, em-sisting of leak checking of each valve and piping run in the waste gas system revealed numerous small gas leaks. The leaks were repaired and no further waste gas releases resulting from this cause have occurred to this date.

i The unplanned waste gas releases as reported by LER's77-49E, 77-80E, and 77-93E vere determined to be the results of blown loop seals on various storage tanks in l

the waste gas system. The recurring problem of blown loop seale is presently being investigated by Plant and Production Engineering, and corrective action to preclude recurrence will be taken upon the recommendations of this investigation.

If there are further questions on these reports, please contact us.

Very truly yours, U.Q \\\\ O w o.L W. P. Stewart Director, Power Production DWP/rc n
