Dear Mr. Mitti:
SUBJECT:
FEEDWATER HAMMER TEST PROCEDURE We have reviewed your test procedure, "SUP 80.1, Appendix G. Feedwater Hamer Test" submitted as an attachment to your letter dated July 7,1980. Our coments are as follows:
- 1). The procedure should be revised to provide infomation regarding test prerequisites, precautions, special test equipment and instrumentation, step-by-step test instructions, and data logs;
- 2) The test should be conducted with a feedwater flow rate which covers the flow rate expected assuming operation of all three auxiliary feedwater pumps (nominally at least 440 gpn per steam generator);
- 3) Critical pipe hangers should be located in three dimensions with respect to fixed reference points. After the test, they should be remeasured to see if any change has occurred;
- 4) Pressure transmitters used in the test should have a time co'stant less n
than the expected time constaat of the shock wave; and
- 5) Strip chart and other records of test pressure and temperature should be saved.
After the test procedure has been revised in accordance with the above coments, it should be resubmitted for NRC review and approval. Should you have any questions on this matter, do not hesitate to contact us.
