i DOCKET NO. 50-29 HAZARDS ANALYSIS BY THE RESEARCH AND POWER REACTOR SAFETY BRANCH DIVISION OF LICENSING AND REGULATION IN THE MATTER OF I
YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIC COMPANY PROPOSED CHANGE NO. 8 pee es cursuant to the provision of paragraph 3. A. of License No. DPR-3, as amended, Yankee Atomic Electric Company in Proposed Change No.
8, dated May 8,1961, requested authorization to change the circuitry and set-points of the Safety Injection System to pro-vide for automatic opening of the valves if the primary system
~
pressure drops below a minimum of 800 psig rather than 300 psig presently provideJ. Yankee fur'ther proposed that the Safety Injection System pumps start up automatically if the primsry pressure drops below 270 psig and that the present coincident provision that the vapor container shall also have risen above 5 psig in order to initiate automatically the Safety Injection System be eliminated.
Based on our review of the Proposed Change, we have concluded that it should contribute to safer operation of the facility and that it does not present significant hazards considerations not described or implicit in the license application.
We have further concluded that there is reasonable assurance that the health and safety of the public i
will not be endangered by operation of the facility as proposed.
