Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the status of Boston Edison's NUREG-0578 " Category B" Items. Additional requirements imposed by I&E 3;11etin #79-01B, that Electrical components be environmentally qualified in accordance with IEEE 3!4-1974 has placed added constraints on our implementation schedule for NUREG-0578 "Cuagory B" Items. Our current schedule for implementation with delivery dates identified is provided as an Attachment to this letter. Material descriptions, lead times, delivery dates and vendors are listed.
We trust this information is adequate to demonstrate to the NRC that Boston Edison is making every effort to meet the NRC's schedules. The completion dates for these items are contingent upon receipt of material already ordered. Should you desire additional information or clarification of our expediting efforts, please feel free to contact us.

The scheduled completion date is July 1,1981.
Position 2.1.3.b - Instrumentation for Detection of Inadequate Core Cooling Boston Edison Company concurs with the BWR Owners position that existing in-strumentation is adequate for detecting inadequate core cooling.
However, we are evaluating improvements which could be made to that instrumentation.
These improvements are beyond the requirements of Position 2.1.3.b of NUREG-0578, and are not yet scheduled for implementation.
Position 2.1.5.a - Dedicated Penetrations for External Recombiners or P3st Accident Purge Systems Boston Edison installed dedicated penetrations during the 198Q Refueling Outage.
This item is complete.
t Position 2.1.6.b - Design Review of Plant Shielding
