Welding and Quality Assurance

. General

A tour was made of the weld test shop by CG&E personnel, KEI

personnel, and the inspector. The KEI QC inspector informed the

.)0RC inspector that in tae.past two weeks he spent approximately

98% of his time in the weld test shop. Prior to the two weeks,

a KEI QC inspector visited the weld test shop approximately

twice a week. The inspector, reviewed the procedure "QC Duties

in Weld Test Shop" and found that there is no specific time for

the QC inspector to be in the weld test shop. The licensee

agreed to revise the procedure. This is an unresolved item

(358/80-20-02).

The EI QC inspector is certified as a Level II in liquid pene-

-tr at examination-(PT). The PT certification was reviewed and

'ound thatLthe KEI Level III examiner on site was certified by

KEI without'a written examination. The NDE is-being performed

i

to-ASME Section III, 1971 Edition, Summer 1973 Addenda.
