IN RESPONSE REFER Washington, DC 20036 TO F01A-80-406

Dear Mr.. Brown:

This is in response to your letter dated August 7,1980, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, copies of all records which relate to the Atomic Energy Commission's amendment to 10 CFR 50.57(c) as proposed on October 28,1970(35 Fed. Reg. 16687) and adopted on May 14, 1971 (36 Fed. Reg. 8861).

You specified nine categories or items of information within the scope of your request. Also, this confirms the telephone conversation between Linda Robinson of my staff and Rebert Belair of your-firm on August 21, 1980.

To date, we have located some records pertaining to categories Nos. 1, 2, and 3 and items Nos. 4 and 5.

These records, as identified on the enclosed Appendix, are enclosed.

The charge for reproducing these records (129 pages) is ten cents ($0.10) per page, as specified in 10 CFR 9.14(b). Accordingly, the cost of reproducing the' enclosed 129 pages is $12.90.

Please' send a check made payable to the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the amount of

$12.90, along with a copy of this letter, to the Director, Division of Rules and. Records, Room MNBB-4?l0, U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC 20555.

A search is still underway for additional records in NRC files on this matter. The search is complicated by the age.of the records, which predate the establishment of NRC, and the fact that separate offices must examine-voluminous materials in an effort to identify records responsive to your-request.

We expect;to have the results of the continuing search.no 1ater'than September 5, 1980.

Sin e @y,

/
