IE BULLETIN 79-18 SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE This is co provide - supplementary information to our letter of September 24, 1979 (Serial No. 655) in response to IE Pulletin 79-18, " Audibility Problems Encountered in Evacuation of Personnel From High-Noise Areas" for North Anna Power Station Unit No. 1.

In our previous response it was stated that " Current alarm systems and evacuation announcement systems..." were clearly audible in all areas except the diesel generator' rooms when the diesels are operat-ing.
The wording of this statement may. lead to confusion and, therefore, needs clarification.
The fire alarm and the evacuation alarm have been. determined to be. clearly audible in all areas of the station except' the diesel generator rooms when the diesels are operating.
Personnel are instructed as part of general training to evacuate the station immediately upon hearing the evacuation alarm.. Therefore, an announcement is not necessary to - initiate evacuation.

The design change to provide a visual evacuation signal in the diesel generator rooms is presently being. installed.
This instal-lation will be completed by September 30, 1980.
As an interim measure, administrative controls have been implemented to insure the evacuation of the diesel generator room if required.
