August 29, 1980 Dockets Nos. 50-26 and 1

Mr. Sol Burstein Executive Vice President Wisconsin Electric Power Coirpany 231 West Michigan Street Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53201

Dear Mr. Burstein:

SUBJECT:

Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment This letter transmits an Order which requires-information to support the. environmental qualification of safety related electrical equipment at the Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unit Nos.1 and 2.

The Comission's Memorandeii and Order of May 23, 1980 addresses safety related electrical equipment exposed to a harsh environment, inside or cutside containment, resulting from an accident.

The Order requires that all su;5 equipment.in operating reactors be fully qualified by June 30,1982.

To complete this objective, you are required to submit, by November 1 1980, all information.to support a safety evaluation of the aforemen-tioned equipment.

If your facilities had an established comitment date before November 1,1980, it is fully expected that your submittal will be not later than that comitment date.

If your facilities' commitment date is past without a complete submittal, it is strongly recommended that actions be expedited since they have already impacted the staff review schedule.

Briefings were held with all interested licensees dur', a the week of July 17,1980.

Enforcement actions relative to this Cyder were dis-

. cussed during these briefings.

Sincerely, f
