Docket No. 50-285 -

Mr. W. C. Jones Division Manager, Production Operations Omaha Public Power District 1623 Harney Street Omaha, Nebraska 68102

Dear Mr. Jones:

SUBJECT:

Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment This letter transmits an Order which requires information to support the environmental qualification of safety related electrical equipment at the Fort Calhoun Station, Unit No.1.

The Comission's Me.T,arandum and Order of May 23, 1980 addresses safety related electrical equipment exposed to a harsh environment, inside or outside containment, resulting from an accident.

The Order requires that all such equipment in operating reactors be fully qualified by June 30,1982.

To complete this objective, you are required to submit, by November 1, 1980, all information to support a safety evaluation of the aforemen-tioned equipment.

If your facility had an established commitment date before November 1,1980, it is fully expected that your submittal will be not later than that comitment date.

If your facility's commitment date is past without a complete submittal, it is strongly reconrended that actions. tie expedited since tney hne already impacted the staff review scheduie.

Briefings were held with ali interested licensees during the week of July 17, 1980.

Enforcement acticns relative to this Order were dis-cussed during these briefings.

Sincerely,

/]
