NSSS Lateral Support Nuts & Bolts

Dear Mr. Seidle:

The investigation and analysis of the 33 " diameter nuts and bolts used in the NSSS lateral supports discussed in the above-referenced letters has been completed and is documented in a report prepared by Bechtel.

The conclusion of this report is that the subject stud bolts and nuts' provide very adequate safety margins against thread failure at the maximum design load. Had the nonconformance gone undetected, there would have been no impact to the health and safety of the public. Because of the information now available we no longer consider this matter to be a potential 10CFR50.55(e) item.

The report is available and may be reviewed during any future inspection.

Yours very truly, j
