Dear Mr. Grier:
This letter is forwarded to provide prompt notification of Reportable Occurrence R0-80-16/lP as required by the Millstone Unit 1 Technical Specifications and IE Bulletin 80-07, BWR Jet Punp Assembly Failure, dated April 4,1980.
On October 23,1980 at 1330 hours0.0154 days <br />0.369 hours <br />0.0022 weeks <br />5.06065e-4 months <br />, results of visual and ultrasonic examinations of Millstone Unit 1 jet pump beams indicated that one (1) beam was rejectable and four (4) beams were of marginal condition.
The cause of failure is suspected to be intergranular stress corrosion cracki ng.
Plans are presently being made for replacement of these jet pump beams during the refueling outage now in progress.
Additional infomation including complete test results and corrective action will be included in a 14 day followup report.
