This confirms the discussion between Mr. D. G. Barker and me on October ?,
1980, and your letter (ST-HL-AE-555) to me dated October 2,1980, concerning actions you have taken with regard to re-examination, repair and restart of AWS welding as committed to in your response to our Show Cause Order, dated April 30, 1980.
Specifically, with regard to your request to re-examine and repair existing welds and commence limited AWS welding on October 6, 1980, we understand that:
1.
Management systems and special procedures controlling tha limited work have been established.
2.
Training of personnel has been completed.
3.
Adequate staffing exists to both perform and manage the limited work.
4.
Corrective actions for previously identified noncompliances related directly to AWS welding are complete.
Verification of work implemen-tation as identified in noncompliance Items No ll.a and ll.b of Appendix A of IE Investigation Report No. 50-498/79-19; 50-499/79-19 will be accomplished as work resumes.
5.
Specific work for re-examination, repair and restart of Category I (AWS Dl.1) structural steel welding will be accomplished as outlined in Attachment 2 to your letter.

With regard to restart of ASME welding and resumption.of placement of complex. concrete pours as requested 'in your-letter of October 2,1980, we do not consider your c'orrective actioni to be complete.

-with you,-we understand that you do not intend to resume work in these areas.until you have completed.this corrective action and we have evalu-ated it in accordance with your response to the Show Cause Order..
