This letter is in response to IE Bulletin 79-26, Revision 1, forwarded to us on August 29, 1980, concerning boron loss from BWR control blades.

Action to be Taken LZ Licensee In order to assist the NRC in evaluating the value/ impact of each Bulletin on licensees, it would be helpful if you would provide 1

an estimate of the manpower expended in conduct of the review and l

preparation of the report (s) required by the Bulletin.

Please l

estimate separately the manpower associated with corrective l

actions following identification of problems through the Bulletin.

Response

l The manpower expended on items 1,2, and 3 of the Bulletin is estimated to be two aan-days per nonth.

Item 4 requires the services of an outside vendor estimated at thirteen man-months and $313,000 for computer time.

Corrective ~ actions associated with this Bulletin fall into two categories, additional safety analyses (e.g.,

shutdown margin adder) and control blade. replacements.

Approximately forty man-days were expended for control blade replacements during Peach Bottom Unit 2's most recent refueling outage.

A similar man power expenditure is expected during Peach Bottom Unit 3's next outage in the spring of 1981.
