SECY-A-80 DIRECTOR'S INTERIM DECISION UNDER 10 CFR 2.206 FOR UNION ELECTRIC COMPANY, CALLAWAY PLANT UNIT 2 Purcose:
To infom tha Comission of the Calf away Unit 2 construction schedule.
Discussion:
By memo dated April 17, 1980, the Comission advised that it would like to be notified of any acceleration in the construction schedule for Callaway Plant Unit 2.
The staff is informed that the licensee, Union Electric Company, has no plans to resume construction at Unit 2 at any time during calendar year 1980.
The licensee has also announced that Callaway Plant Unit 2 will not be placed in corrercial operation until 1988, and that fuel Icading for this unit is now scheduled for October,1987.
A resumption of construction during 1981 and a fuel load date of October,1987, would not involve an accelerated construction schedule.
The Missouri Public Service Comission's public hearings into the need for Callaway Plant Unit 2 are scheduled for May 12 -
May 23, 1980, and the PSC ruling as to whether or not to revoke the certificate of public convenience and necessity for Unit 2 will be issued by September 1, 1980.
Further NRC action on the PSC's 2.206 request will be taken subsequent to the September 1 ruling.
The Comission will be advised of the outcome of the Missouri PSC hearings, and of any subsequent Unit 2 construction plans of the Union Electric Company.
