Dear Mr. Keppler:

Clinton Power Stat 4n Unit 1 Docket No. 50-461 Construction Permit No. CPPR-137 On June 25, 1980, Illinois Power Company verbally notified Mr. H. M. Wese:, NRC Region III, of a potential reportable deficiency per 10CFR50.55(e) concerning suspect cracking in some electrical hanger hardware supports.

Our investigation of this matter has not been completed, and this is to serve ac an interim report per 10CFR50 55(e)(3).

A

series of tests has been initiated by the material supplier (Super Strut) to verify whether or not the hardware supports will perform to the designed intent.

Preliminary tests produced inconclusive results, and further testing is scheduled within the next month.

We anticipate that we will need approximately ninety days to com-plete our investigation of this potential deficiency and deter-mination of reportability.
