v d (313)Michigan 237-800048226 Engineenng and Construct'on July 25 1980 EF2 - 45 110 Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut, Director Division of Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

Reference:

Enrico Fermi Atomic Power Plant Unit 2 NRC Docket No. 50-341 Gubject: Additional Guidance on " Potential for Low Fracture Toughness'and Lamellar Tearing on PWR Steam Generator and Reactor Coolant Pump Supports",

NUREG-0577 In November, 1979 the Nuclear Regulatory Commission sent the "For Comment" edition of NUREG-0577, " Potential for Low Fracture Toughness and Lamellar Tearing on PWR Steam Generators and Reactor Coolant Pump Supports" to all Power Reactor Licensees for review and comment.

In your letter of May 20, 1980 to all pending operating licensees, the scope of NUREG-0577 was modified signifi-cantly to include support structures for BWR Reactor Vessels and Reactor Coolant Recirculation Pump. That letter requested that all comments be submitted by July 7, 1980.

Due to significant modifications in the implementation plan and the application to BWR's, Detroit Edison requests that the comment period be extended to September 15, 1980 to permit sufficient time for us to evaluate NUREG-0577 and your May 20, 1980 letter.

Sincerely,

/ O!
