Dear Mr. McCorkle:

Subject:

Security Plan for the Temporary Disestablishment of the Press II Area as a Material Access Area The area in "B" Building south side identified as Press II must be modified extensively for a new process.

In order to accomplish this it will be necessary to employ uncleared contractors. Security can best be maintained by physically isolating Press II from the remainder of "B" South for a period from about 1 July'through the end of 1980. This will temporarily disestablish Press II as a material access area.

The attached drawing of "B" South showa the area enclosed by a red line which will be declassified. All classified materials will be removed. This includes SNM, signs, displays, documents and equipment. The points marked 1, 2 and 3 will be locked steel doors using combination padlocks controlled by security.

All contractors will be escorted by cleared UNC employees at all times and they will enter and depart the Press II area via door number 22.

When the area is secured, this door will be locked and alarmed.

Construction work will be performed primarily during daytime. At night or when work is not being done, the Press II area will be secured and the existing motion detection system activated.

Guard patrols will check this area for integrity of the barriers at intervals not to exceed 8 hours9.259259e-5 days
0.00222 hours
1.322751e-5 weeks
3.044e-6 months
.

UNC-NP does not consider that this plan reduces the effectiveness of physical security of special nuclear material.

Sincerely, y

a R. B. Gu t son Corporat curit Director i
