Dear Mr. Keppler:

On April 3,1979, Mr. C. E. Ch=lelewski of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc., (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). This item involved repair welds on one of the Unit 2 containment sump recirculation piping sleeves which were not re-radiographed after the repair welding was completed.

As planned (see PSI's interim report of May 2,1979) ultrasonic testing of the subject sleeve welds was performed by Chicago Bridge

& Iron to determine their quality. The results of this testing indicated that the welds were not defective and were acceptable as is.

Were this situation to have remained uncorrected it would not have affected adversely the safety of operations of the plant at anytime throughout the expected lifetime of the plant and therefore is not reportable. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely, r
