C. 20555 Dea.r Mr. Denton: CONTAINMENT PRESSURE BOUNDARY FRACTURE TOUGHNESS REQUIREMENTS NORTH ANNA UNIT NO. 2 The following information is provided in response to NRC questions regarding applicable codes and fracture toughness requirements for ferritic steel parts of the containment pressure boundary which are not supported by concrete. These materials are applied in containment penetrations such as piping pene-trations, electrical penetrations, the personnel air lock, and the equipment hatch. 1. The applicable codes and standards for the design, fabrication, and testing for the containment liner and penetrations are as described in Section 3.8.2.1.4.3 of the FSAR. 2. The specific testing requirements for all ferritic steel items, except backing plates, anchors, testing channels, bolts and nuts, comprising any part of the containment pressure boundary are as described on pages 3.8-76 through 3.8-78 of the FSAR. Paragraph N-330 of ASME III, 1968 was used as the basis for establishing these material testing requirements. These specific testing requirements were included in Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation Speci-fication For Shop Fabrication and Field Erection of the Reactor Containment Steel Plate Liner, NAS-41. 3. Test data for drop weight testing at -20*F was supplied, as required by the specification and the FSAR, and are on file at North Anna.
