Mr. R. H. Engelken, Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1990 N. California Boulevard Suite 202, Walnut Creek Plaza Walnut Creek, CA 04596
Subject:
WPPSS NUCLEAR PROJECTS 3 AND 5--
RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 80-05
Dear Mr. Engelken:
The subject IE Bulletin which addresses, " Vacuum Conditions Resulting in Damage to Chemical Volume Control System (CVCS)
Tanks," has been reviewed for application to WNP-3/S.
It has been determined that all tanks in the CVCS are adequately protected against vacuum damage as follows:
- 1) The hold up tanks are equipped with vacuum breakers (one per +.ank).
- 2) The equipment drain tank is designed for full vacuum and also contains a nitrogen cover gas.
- 3) The Volume Control tank is maintained above atmospheric pressure even at tank low level trip point.
We are presently reviewing the design of all tanks and com-oonents in the radwaste system.
The results of this study will be available in approximately four (4) months.
