Mr. Harold Denton Nuclear Regulatory Commission Phillips Building 7920 Norfolk Avenue Betheseda, Md 20555
Dear Mr. Denton:
As a concerned citizen and mother of four children, I (along with millions of other Americans) om alarmed at the recent incident at Three Mile Island.
The omozing coincidence portrayed in the film China Syndrome, which dramatized '
the possibility of such on accident actually happening, as it in fact did, gave a rather strong jolt to my nerve endings and brought the reality of the situation home to anyone who saw the movie.
- Whether accidental breakdown or human error was the cause of the mishop at Three Mile Island doesn't reos ly matter. The outcome is what matters. The cotostrophic results to people, livestock, the unborn and the cities and towns of America.
My question to your Commission is: What precautions do you take to prevent such occidents? Who inspects the nuclear facilities for safety? Are these inspectors members or employees of the NRC? Are they individuals from private industry with no conflicting interests? How are they judged for their expertise in this critical type of assignment? Ordre they?
I feel that I, os well as every other individual in this country, has a right to know who is looking'out it.,r their interests and how well. I would oppreciate o reply as soon as possible. Thank you.
