This office represents an employee of Babcock and Wilcox engaged in maintenance and repair work at the Florida Power Corporation Nuclear Plant in Crystal River, FL.

Our client has contracted some sort of an infection on his face and occasionally on other parts of his body and it is believed at this time that this occurs as a result of contact with cleaning materials on the mask and other clothing used in the reactor area.

We understand that the clothing and masks are removed upon leaving the reactor area and are cleaned and restored to use in the plant by Florida Power Corporation.

I assume that the method of cleaning and the chemicals used and the manner of cleaning this clothing and materials for the clothing themselves are matters which would be on record with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Assuming this is correct, and under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, we would appreciate as much detailed information as you can give us concerning:

(1) The material actually used in the clothing used in the reactor room, and the material used in the face masks and particularly those portions that are pressed against the skin around the face.

.(2) The required or recommended cleaning procedures for reuse of ,

the clothing and masks.

(3) Information concerning the nature of the chemicals or other cleansing products which are used in the washing procedure.
