On Thursday, May 11, 1978, I met with Jawad Touma, Paul Slaughter and I-Ming Aron of Consumers Power Company at the Midland Nuclear i:
Power Plant for an onsite inspection of the meteorology program.
The site has one 91.5 meter tower with its base located 6 metere i
belcw the grade level of the containment building Initially I i
examined this tower and the -meteorological instrumentation contained in a shed adjacent to it.
This was followed by a tour around the periphery of the site to m mine the cooling pond and dike, the Tittabawassee River, and other topographic features of the area.
The cooling pond dike and the area where the containment and $ther buildings are located are among the highest land features in the vicinity of the site. The region surrounding the site is very flat.
I also looked at the areas where two 10-neter towers had been located but are no longer in use.
During the visit we discussed the site instrumentation, calibration and maintenance procedures, and topographic features of the area.
Two areas of a ncern that were discussed were the high percentage of D stability (60".) that occurs at the site and the forthcoming cooling pond fog study.
