On Jane 9,1977, the Nuclear Regulatory Couunission announced by press release its plans for public meetings to discuss a new 10 CFR Part 21 to its rules and regulations entitled,

" Reporting of Defects and Noncompliance." Accordingly, we are scheduling a series of meetings near our Regional Offices for the purpose of explaining how the nn: requirements will apply to nuclear activities covered by the rule. You are cordially invited to send one or more representatives to par-ticipate in the July 21, 1977 meeting hosted by this Office.

Further detail regarding the meetings and the requirements of the rule may be found in the enclosures. This material includes a copy of the press release announcing the meetings, a copy of 10 CFR Part 21 and an information sheet. The information sheet is provided to advise you of the specific details of the meetings, to assist you in selecting your representative (s) in the appropriate areas of interest and in formulating any questions you may have on the rule.

Sub-mission of questions prior to the workshop is solicited, however open sessions for questions are planned.
