INTERIM REPORT #2 l

DATE: May 5, 1978 J MQICT: Consumers Power Company Midland Plant Units,1 & 2 Bechtel Job 7220 Status of Corrective Action and Investigation 4

Interim Report #1 provided a listing of actions initiated in resolving.

the situation. The status of these actions is updated as follows:

1)

Grinnell will reanalyse anchors when provided with revised load sheets.

2)

Piping system reanalysis has been initiated.

The intention remains to define specific loadings for each c' the subject anchors, rather i

than utilize a " worst-case" applicatica to sill anchors, as had been done previously. _ Water hammer analysis is in process. Thermal loading information as well as seismic response data for the subject system piping have been generated. This information is currently being transferred to individual anchor load sheets with appropriate axis translations being made for the curvilinear spray piping system.

3)

Procedural methods have been reviewed and will continue to be monitored.

Forecast Data for Investigation and Corrective Action Due to the complexity of the piping arrangement, completion of water hammer analysis is now scheduled for late June. Piping stress analysis will then be completed approximately one month later, with final reanalysis by Grinnell to follow immediately thereafter.
