.: 4-Aug 16 872 OTE FOR FILES FUEL EXAMINATION IN OC0F2E FUEL PIT In an informal meeting held with B&W representatives (Rick Edwards, et. al.)
B&W inquired about t'.te licensing aspects of B&W performing Post Irradiation Evaluation (PIE)'on Oconee fuel in the Oconee facilities.
Since this program would go beyond the visual and dimension exams already included in the Duke application (FSAR Supplement 8) and involve intentional violation of the fuel clad, B&W was informed at that time that we would need more information to use as the basis for our evaluation.
In a telecon with Ken Canady on June 21, 1972, Duke was reminded that we have received no information on this subject to permit our evaluation. Canady promised to take the subject up with B&W but we have heard nothing as of this date.
In the meantime Don Davis, PWR-4, discussed this subject with OR and was informed that OR knew of no operating facilities where such a program is being or has been conducted and that OR would look unfavorably on any such proposal.
The subject was again discussed with Bill Parker of Duke on August 15, 1972 and he was advised of our negative position but if Duke and B&W still wished to pursue the matter we would respond to their formal request for review.
