REQUEST FOR DRS ASSISTANCE Proj ect: Oconee Units 1, 2 & 3 Docket Nos.: 50-269, 50-270 &

Project Leader:

A. Schwencer 50-287 Type of Review:

Operating License REQUESTED WORK Determine minimum acceptable physical separation Gn inches or otherwise) for redundant I & C cables in cable trays.

FSAR Revision 16 Figure 8-7 depicts Duke's solution to an overfill problem discovered by Compliance prior to July,1971.

Since then additional cables were added causing additional overfilling.

Determination on separation is required on Units 1, 2 and 3.

On Unit 1 essentially all cables are now in place.

On Units 2 & 3 very little cable pullinghas been accomplished. To assure that minimum acceptable corrective action is taken on Unit I and maximum practical preventive action is taken on Units 2.and 3, it is requested that the determination of minimum acceptable separations be addressed separately.

Slides of Unit 1 cable overloading are available.

REQUESTED COMPLETION DATE A site visit to observe the extent of cable overfill was made November 30, 1971. The applicant is in the final stag of preoperational testing on Unit 1 and should be notified as soon as possible whether corrective at-ion will be required. Therefore a completion date of December 10, 1971 is requested.
