We have reviewed the above Technical Assistance Request and determined that Duke Power Company's amendment to Oconee PSAR deca not contain sufficient date to support the conclusions on spent fuel cask handlinz system acceptability.
The licensee should provide additional information to demonstrate that:
I (1) An accidental drop of any spent fuel cask to be used at Oconee will not result in an imacceptable release of radioactivity or damage l
The evaluation should cover the to safety related equiptaent.
entire spent fuel cask travel path and should include cask drop /
tip analysis in the area of the spent fuel pool as well as calculations I
demonstrating capability of structures to withstand the miinum cask i
drop without loss of ftstetion and/or adequate protection for safety related equipment, or:
l (2) The overhead crane for spent fuel cask handling neats the single t
failure proof criteria set forth in Branch Technical Position APCSB 9-1, a copy of v.tich is attached.
