Oconce Unit 1 SIMIARY OF 1-EETING IELD ON MARCll 23, 1976, TO DISCUSS TIE RESULTS OF AN IN' FECTION OF TIE REACTOR VESSEL SURVEILLANCE CAPSULE !! OLDER TUBES AT 00 NEE tNIT 1 On March 23, 1976, representatives of Babcock and Wilcox (B6W) and DPC net with the NRC staff to evaluate the extent of damage to the reactor vessel surveillance capsule holder tthes and to determine whether the holder tubes can remain in the Unit I reactor vessel during Cwcle 4 operation.
A list of Attendees is enclosed.
Significant discussions / agreements are summarized below.
BGW provided a detailed account of the holder tube inspection. 'Ihe locations and extent of wear damage were shown and the probable cause identified as being flow-induced relative motion between the holder tubes and push rod assemblies within the tubes. The actual stress loadings on the holder ttices (measured during Ilot Functional Testing) were shown to be well below the allowable limits.
In a'dition, the results of a fatigue evaluation were shown which took into act.ount the material condition of the holder tubes.
Based on a review of the date previded, tae staff concluded that, from a material integrity standpoint, the holder r.ubes could remain in the core during Cycle 3 operation.
BGW and the licensee committed to providing a written submittal of the reshlts of the holder tube inspection and their analysis.
