Ref Docket 50-112 l
1 Dear Mr. Baer This.is in reference to the findings and comments pursuant to your
-inspection of Facility Operating License No. R-53 on 11 October 1989.
g i
As' requested, the materials involved with this license.which contain f
residual radioactivity have been transferred to this University's l
' Byproduct ~ License (35-07466-05) for disposal via its low level waste L!
system.
In addition to the materials previously identified in our l
report dated.28 August 1989
Subject:
Application for License Amend -
f ment to terminate License R-53; we will also dispose of those materi-i als/ identified in your inspection.
Specifically, there were contact exposure levels of 10-14'4R/hr above background identified on the in-sert stems of some graphite reflector rods.
We have identified this source of exposure by gamma spectroscopy as Co-60.
It is only o'n the guide tip of these rods, and these will be removed from the remainder of the rods and treated as low level radioactive waste.
Thank you for your assistance in this termination request.
If you need any additional information please advise me and I will comply.
Sincerely,
