Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit II (TMI-2)

Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 I.E.Bulletin 80-16 We are submitting this letter as requested in I.E.Bulletin 80-16 and subsequent to our letter of May 29,1980 (TLL 247). We have reviewed the subject matter of this bulletin and have determined that it is of a long-term :.ature as related to TMI-II.

The TMI-II facility utilizes four (4) of the identified transmitters as narrow range pressure transmitters (1700 to 2500 psig) for the Reactor Coolant System (RCS). However, the present and expected operating pressures of RCS (1100 psig) are well below the designed indication range for utilizing the trans-mitters. Additionally, the transmitters are considered inoperable, as they are submerged just over the containment mat.

Therefore, these transmitters will not see service in the recovery mode of operation. For the above reasons, this bulletin is classified "Long Term" and will be handled in accordance with that classification.
