Licensee: Georgia Power Company Facility: Hatch 1 and 2 License Nos.: DPR-57 and NPF-5 Docket Nos.: 50-321 and 50-366

Subject:

High Pressure Coolant Injection (HPCI) and Reactor Core Isolation Coolant (RCIC) System Malfunction On June 27, 1980, representatives of Georgia Power Company met with NRC Reg' ion II t

personnel in Atlanta, Georgia. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss with the licensee their schedule and planned corrective actions regarding the failure of the HPCI and RCIC systems to perform as designed following a reactor trip on Hatch 1, on June 26, 1980.

The licensee gave a presentation which outlined programs for determining the cause for system failures, the review of plant practices and activities which may affect system performance and a comprehensive test program to ensure that a

HPCI and RCIC systems perform as designed. An NRC representative acknowledged Georgia Power Company's presentation and emphasized the need to closely review for adequacy the surveillance procedures, the test requirements and personnel technical training as they apply to the HPCI and RCIC systems.

It was noted that a followup meeting would be held in Region II office to discuss the results of the licensee investigations and retest programs.
