Consumers Power Company 212 West Michigan Avenue THis DOCUMENT C0NTAINS POORQUAUTYPAGES Jackson, Michigan 49201
Dear Mr. Murri:
Your letter of June 18,1973, to the Interagency Committee on Radiological Assistance concerning the implementation of the Interagency Radiological Assistance Plan (IRAP) in the Midland and Bay City, Michigan, areas has -
been referred to me for reply.
The IRAP is implemented for the State of Michigan through the AEC Radio-logical Assistance Region 5 plan which includes 10 states. The responsi-bility for Region 5 is assigned to the AEC Chicago Operations Office.
Procedures for taking interagency action in the event of radiological emergencies are included in the Region 5 plan. Specific information on interagency radiological assistance responses to emergencies in this area can be obEained from Mr. W. V. Thomas, Safety Division, AEC Chicago Operations Office. The enclosed map of radiological assistance regions gives the Chicago Operation: Office mailing address and telephone number to call for radiological emergency assistance.
Training ectivities under the IRAP have been minimal. The enclosed booklet l
was published for use in instruction for nontechnical individuals. Indi-vidual agencies, such as the U.S. Public Health Service, Environmental Protection Agency, and Defense Civil Preparedness Agency may have certain courses on radiological protection-related subjects which are now being l
coordinated through AEC-Regulation as " Lead Agency." The AEC has published training course manuals on Radiological Emergency Operations that can be used by any organization interested in conducting such training. However, the course itself is not presently being conducted at any AEC site. Enclosed is an infonnation release on these manuals that describes their contents in general and gives the source from which they can be purchased. Other materials are enclos related to the IRAP program.
