No. 6600-C-35-AC Job No. 6600 SAMPLE: Testing of the Reactor Building Liner Plate Anchorage Test Specimens DATE SUBMITTED: March 3, 1969 REPORT TO: Bechtel Corporation 301 Mission Street San Francisco, California Attn: Mr. Ted Johnson aEPQRT 7- The following report is a summary of the test preparation and Y data on eight (8) liner plate anchor specimens prepared and tested by our laboratory for Bechtel Corporation on Purchase Order 660-C-35-AC. .

The eight (8) test specimens, identified I through VIII, were prepared in accordance with the purchase order. All eight (8) were compression specimens. Seven (7) were tested on 4/4/69 (16 days after casting) and one (1) specimen, No. V, is to be tested on 9/15/69. The tests on 4/4/69 were witnessed by Ted Johnson of Bechtel Corporation. These tests were performed in l a 120,000 lb. Tinius Olson Hydraulic Testing Machine. A summary of the test specimens, test data, welded sample type, j weld and angle leg directions is given in the attached data.

The test plates used to make the specimens were hot rolled A 36 material 1/4" thick. The material is certified by vaseph T. Ryerson & Sons Inc. to meet the chemical and mechanical requirements of ASTM A 36 material. Tensile tests were per-

the longitudinal direction and two (2) in the transverse di-rection. This test data is attached.

The angles were fillet welded onto the plates by Advanced Heli l Welders in accordance with AWS D 1.0-63. The welding rod used l was E6010 celluloce electrode. The weld and angle positions l is included in the appendix.

On March 19, 1969 the eight (8) liner plates were cast in con-crete blocks. At the same time, eight (8) concrete test cylinders were als'o prepared. The cement was Portland Cement, Type II, per ASTM C 150 and only one brand, Calaveras, was  !

used. The aggregates used conformed to ASTM C-33 and were manufactured from calcite limestone by Kaiser Sand and Gravel.

The fine and coarse aggregates were graded in accordance with the purchase order as follows:

Eight (8) test specimens containirig liner plate anchorage specimens were filled and vibrated to the satisfaction of the representatives of the Bechtel Corporation present.

~The exposed concrete surface was coated with Grace Con-struction Company's Clean Seal #12 after the initial set of the concrete and covered with burlap.

, Twenty-four (24) hours af ter completing the concrete pour, all test specimens were stripped from the forms and coated all sides with Clean Seal #12.

A seven (7) day compression test was performed on two (2) of the test cylinders. The cylinders were capped and load de-flection measurements were made at 500 psi, no load, 500 psi, 1,000 psi. 2,000 psi, 3,000 psi and 4,000 psi. Two (2) cylinders were again tested after sixt:en (16) days. Of the remaining four (4) cylinders, two (2) are to be tested after twenty-eight (28) days and two (2) after one hundred and eighty (180) days. The load-deflection data from the' testec -i linders is given in the attached data.

The compression tests on the liner plate test blocks were per-

! formed with load deflection measurements being made at 5,000 lbs., 10,000 lbs., 15,000 lbs., 20,000 lbs. and in 10,000 lbs.  ;

increments to test completion. Additional measurements were l

. also made at specified loads ,or deflections after yielding oc-curred.

The upper three (3) dials were designated 1, 2 and 3 from the front to the back of the machine. The lower dials were designated 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 again from the front to the back of the machine (see Drawing C199 for the actual lo-cations). The upper dials 1, 2 and 3 were used to preset the compressive load on the concrete test block in addition to measuring any deflection during the test. 1 1/16" thick asbestos padding was placed beneath and on top of )

the concrete blockr between them and the clamping fixtures. l The loading surfaces were not capped for this series of tests. l They were ground, however, to remove any loose concrete or ridges.
