Dear Mr. Chairman:

Enclosed is a copy of a letter addressed to me, dated December 16, 1970, from Mr. Arthur F. Baker of Mountain Home, Arkansas. I would appreciate receiving a report from you, responding to the questions raised in Mr. Baker's letter. With best wishes, I am i Sincerely yours, b h J. W. l ~ ...~s. .r.. .Dec. 16, 1970. The Honorable J. W1111m Fulbright United States Senate .. Dear Bill. I am seeking some infonnation regardin5 the Atomic Energy Commission, in their authority to approve construction of Nuclear fueled steam electric generating stations. The increasing demand for electric energy has been so great and probably will continue, and A. E. C. will no doubt approve over a hundred such generating stations-in the next seven years, they have been somewhat prone to principle of the closed circuit in the condenser cooling system to the present time, and continue to approve stations taking water from a river or estuary and returning the water heated to 95 to 115 degrees to the source. They also refuse to recognize, this'ther=al pollution as an invironmental hazard. Considering Senator Muskie's subcommittee findings on industry and thermal pollution,has anything been done to safeguard the american public, stopping this negligence by A. E. C. in allowing our waterways to be polluted with hot water and lettin's construction precede sufficient research for the safe disposal of the radioactive wastes from the nuclear reactors. i Our own State stands to loose considerably from the operation of the Nuclear Reactors to be constructed on Lake Dardncile, unless A. E. C. changes their plans, and ' considers the present operation an environmental hazard. Yours very truly N Henderson Star Route Mountain Home, Ark. 72653 4 m .}}
