We were notified 'en April 13, 1978, by Babcock and Wilcox of the results of an analysis of a 0.04 ft2 RCS pump discharge break d ich had nct been previously analyzed and which now shows unacceptable results.
ih unac-ceptable results cecur after approximately 1700 seconds when ons assumes that only one High Pressure Injection (HPI) train is working (due to single failure assumption) and that 50% of the flow from that HPI pump is not reaching the core due to flow out of the break.
The analysis also shows that the RCS pressure will ramnin above the pressure at which Low Pressure Injection (LPI) flow can reach the RCS.
We are in contact with the NRC Staff (Division of Operating Reactors) in Washington and will be propcsing corrective action to them by April 17, 1978.
Due to the very low probability that such a specific event will occur and the short time required to develop corrective action,' no action is necessary to restrict operation of the unit at this time.
Very truly yours,
/
