Dear Mr. Stolz:
This letter is writ en to document how ;he Automatic Test Inserter (ATI) will be removed from service on the Sa'.ety Featuras Actuation System (SFAS) for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Peser Station Unit 1.
ATI removal from service was documented in Revision 24 to the FSAR.
The ATI equipment in the SFAS is to be disabled until af ter commercial operation, and will be placed into service only after we have obtained the approval of the NRC.
This is being done so that any alignment problems with the ATI will not have an adverse affect on the commercial operation schedule for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit No.
1.
In order to totally disable the ATI module (CCC Part No. 6N85) from the rest of the SFAS, the following items will be done:
a)
Fuses F108 in Channel I cabinet and F308 in Chacael 3 cabinet will be removed and tagged. These fuses are for power supplies which are only used to supply the ATI circuitry.
b)
Connectors J112, J113 and J114 in Channel I cabinet, connectors J212 in Channel 2 cabinet, connectors J313 in Channel 3 cabinet and connectors J414 in Channel 4 cabinet will be disconnected and tagged. These connectors are in the cables that connect the ATI module in the Channel I cabinet with the other FSAS cabinets.
c)
The ATI module (6N85) will be removed from the Channel I cabi net.
The following vendor drawings are being revised to show the above changes:
Bechtel No. 774'9-E-30-16-9, CCC No. S9N16-1, Sheet 4 Bechtel No. 7749-E-30-33-8, CCC No. S9N16-1, Sheet 5 Bechtel No. 7749-E-30-37-8, CCC No. 59N16-3, Sheet 4 Attached are three copies of each of the above threa drawings showing the changes.

All of the above listed changes are based upon recommendations from the Cansolidated Control Corporation. None of the above changes require the removal or the disconnecting of field installed wiring.
None of the above devices that have been disconnected or rem' ved will be o
reconnected or reinstalled during Modes 1, 2, 3 and 4; and during Modes 5 and 6 when any reactivity changes are being made to the core, until The Toledo Edison Company haw obtained the approval of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Sincerely, h
