Dear Mr. Morris:
t t
EUBJECT:
RELIEF FROM REQUIREl4ENTS Of ASME XI FOR t,,,
s TORTCALHOUNSTATION,(TACNO.69035) l l By letter dated July 29, 1988, you requested relief from the examination schedule required by Section XI of the ASitE Code for welds that were not identifitd in the Ten. Year Inservice Exam Plan for fort Calhoun Station. The welds omitted in the plan were (1) longitudinal searts in Class 2 piping.
-(2) two circumferentit1 pipe.to. pipe shop welds in the Reactor Coolant Systein hot leg piping, and (3) six welds in the pressurizer spray lines. You have requested'io defer the required exe.minations until they could be incorporated L
in the plan.
The staff has ieviewed the infora.ation contained in the attachinent to your July 29. letter and has deterinined that exaininetit>ns perforord on other welds in areas of:the welds omitted from the examination plan would have provided results indicative of any degraded condition of the piping, Ycu have taken corrective actions in accordance with Appendix B of 10 CFR Part 50 to rectify the otaission of the welds in the exarninetion plan. The staff concludes thet deferral of examination of these welds will not pose n condition that is adverse to plant safety; and therefore, the relief is grsnted.
This coropletes our effort under TAC tio. 69035.
Sincerely,
/s/
