A conference call between Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Texas Utilities and l

. Westinghouse was held on Octc6er 20, 1989. This is to further clarify the responses provided in the WCAP 12248, Supplement 1. NRC's questions on  ;

heatup/cooldown transients, monitoring' program, annimum predicted vertical i displacements anywhere in the pipe, and maximum equation 12 stress and the l corresponding allowable stress were clarified and no further documentation is I required.

In addition, pipe delta T, system delta T, and tables 1-3 and 1-4 of the  !

WCAP-12248 was discussed in detail. Sincethissummary(especiallyhowpipe l

delta T was developed in tables 1-3 and 1-4) is not clearly explained in the j original WCAP-12248 and Supplement 1 NRC requested that this discussion be l documented. The summary of this discussion is provided on the following i pages. Also, this supplement contains an errata section which provides  !
  • corrections to typographical errors that existed in the original WCAP-12248, f

.. TABLES 1-3 AND 1-4 Nodification of the pressuriser surge line transients.to account for thermal stratification was accomplished by replacing the existing heatup and I tooldown transients with a new set of transients that were based on actual  !

monitoring data from several plants. The new heatup and cooldown transients f

are provided in table 1-3 of WCAP 12248. Analysis of the sonitoring data j resulted in the conclusion that two basic forms of stratification should be l consider 6d in fatigue analysis. [
