SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE.
h' "
Seotember 1989 Unit 1 began the month in a maintenance shutdown pending NRC agreement with the-analysis presented to NRC Staff on September 25.
This analysis stated that the material defects in Unit 2 were applicable to Unit 1, but Unit I could be safely operated.
Numerous maintenance activities, including preosurizer close out,'are currently in progress. The unit is expected to begin heat up in mid-December for a start up on December 29, 1989.

.CALVERT CLIFFS UNIT 2 October 25,'1989 r
SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Sentember 1989 I
Unit 2 was shutdown for the month.for the 8th cycle scheduled refueling outage.
(f The pressurizer investigation identified cracks or crack indications in 18 of 28 f
pressurizer heater sleeves that were initially designated as leaking. All cracks were axial.and confined to the top 2 inches of the sleeves.
Three axial i-cracks were identified.in the leaking pressurizer instrument nozzle at the inside of pressurizer. The cracks were characterized as Primary Water Stress Corrosion Cracks since the material microstructure and fabrication history suggests a susceptibility' to this form of attack.
All 120 pressurizer heater' sleeves are currently being replaced.
The Unit is scheduled to return to service in the Spring of 1990.
