Dear Mr. McNeelin:
I have received your letter of September 25, 1989, expressing Duke Power Company's support for the EPRI advanced light water reactor (ALWR) Requirements Document Program and the design certification process, and recommending that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) give priority to design certification of the evolutionary
)
ALWR's.
As we noted in the Statement of Consideratior.s to our i
Ele H ' 1e ister h.1tice of April 18, 1989, concerning the final Federal R E a rTyli tt Permits; Standard Design Certifications; and Combined Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants " 10 CFR Part 52, i
54 Fed. Reg. 15372, 15375, the Commission will give priority to designs for which there is a demonstrated interest in the United i
States.
The Commission will review other designs as resources permit.
We are currently establishing review priorities that will effec-tively utilize NRC resources.
During this process, the Commission will caref ully consider your comments.
